My Profile:
Animals have been a big part of my life since I was
a child. I grew up surrounding myself with as many strays,
wild animals, small rodents and reptiles that I could sneak into
my bedroom. After a wide array of species and countless
scolding from my parents, they decided to adopt a kitten for me when
I was old enough. He was the best thing that ever happened to me as
well as my best friend and the inspiration for my pet sitting
business!!! Having him made me want to learn
more about animals of all types, so I began working at
The Seeing
Eye, in Morristown, NJ right after high school. I worked there for
a few years as a
Kennel Attendant, where I cared for the guide dogs in all
their phases of training. It was a wonderful experience where I
gained a vast amount of knowledge on dog types, personalities, basic
training, as well as care and nutrition. I was fortunate
enough to be able to adopt one of their German Shepherd Dogs', Toby, who
passed away after 12 1/2 years. While I was working at The Seeing Eye, I also
worked part time at the Montville Animal Hospital as a
receptionist/Vet Tech. trainee. This enabled me to learn about
the some of the common diseases, different medications and their
uses, as well as some different animal types and species.
Why I got started:
I eventually started going to college and working
full time but I didn't want to lose my contact with animals. I
worked in a few kennels as well as some various corporate jobs, but the kennels
were depressing and the offices made me feel like I was in a kennel.
And then, I found the perfect job - pet sitting!!! I
started working for a local pet sitter whom I ended up working for 2
1/2 years during and after college. I loved the job and being able to meet new people
and their pets. It gave me a great deal of satisfaction
to go to their homes, in their own setting and take care of them.
They seemed so much happier and secure being in their own
surroundings and smells. No barking or cries I'd hear at the
kennels that would break my heart. So, knowing that this is
what I wanted to do, be with animals, I started my own pet sitting
business!!!
Presently:
At the current time I have three
German Shepherd Dogs, Dakota, Amity and Sam (a mix). They live with 5
cats; Smudge, Jerky, Creepers, Monkey and Grissom!!!
They are loved by my husband, my 3 year old daughter and I!!!
We are also proudly opening
Bone
appetit, a gourmet dog treat bakery. All
treats are made from 100% all natural, organic and human grade
ingredients. We are currently working on a website but please
email for a menu at;
boneappetitllc@hotmail.com.
I presently do volunteer work
at the Tri-Boro Animal Shelter in
Kinnelon, to help with the animals that need to be adopted. If
thinking about adopting a dog or cat, please consider visiting the
shelter. That is where I adopted my white German shepherd dog named
Dakota (pictured below) He is a great companion for
my cats and the rest of the family!!
